Ryan Rhodes is entering his senior year and his college experience has been riddled with adversity and difficult situations. Ryan has two unattributed quotations that he has modeled his life decisions after. The first is about failure as nobody can make it out of this life without incurring a failure of some sort. “Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. It is an obstacle that must be overcome in the journey to success.” The second quote speaks about excuses.  “Excuses are the tools of the weak and incompetent; those succeed and excel in using [excuses], seldom succeed or excel in anything else.” Ryan believes that instead of choosing to accept things as they are given is the wrong course of action. Instead of rationalizing failure, you should always work toward finding the road to success. He has battled physical ailments in his diagnosis of severe sleep apnea. He has navigated a hazardous landscape that still managed to beckon while he has been in school. He has drawn on his experiences with the Track and Field Team and LUSSI (Lehigh University Summer Scholars Institute) to ground him in very different campus environment. Ryan prides himself on being involved in a full-time student, being a varsity athlete, and a charter member/ vice president of a Greek chapter at Lehigh in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Ryan’s daily schedule is jammed-packed with challenging new endeavors be they physical or mental. He welcomes anything new or challenging as his goals are challenging and ever-changing.
